Under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and organized by the Green Education and Sustainability Research Association, the National Forum of Scientific and Engineering Societies was held on Thursday, February 5, 2026. The forum was attended by the President of the Supreme Council of Scientific Societies, Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahd, the Scientific Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and saw wide participation from the heads and representatives of scientific and engineering societies. The event was generously hosted by the University of Technology.
The forum discussed a number of key themes concerning the current state and future of scientific and engineering societies. Foremost among these were the role of these societies in national development projects, the organization and activation of consulting offices as an effective tool for linking scientific expertise with the needs of the state and society, and the role of these societies in developing professional and organizational codes that enhance governance and ensure the quality of institutional performance.
The forum’s proceedings were characterized by in-depth and constructive discussions that reflected a shared awareness of the importance of redefining the role of scientific and engineering societies as active professional and developmental partners, capable of contributing to decision-making, capacity building, and serving society and the state.
This forum is an important milestone in the development of association work, and a significant step towards strengthening institutional integration among scientific associations, which supports higher education and scientific research, and contributes to achieving sustainable development in Iraq.
