As part of its scientific role in addressing food security issues, the Green Education and Sustainability Research Association, in cooperation with the Training and Laboratories Center at the University of Technology, organized a specialized scientific workshop on the problem of food waste and its repercussions on household food security. This workshop was held within the framework of Sustainability Week at the University of Technology (February 4–10, 2026), in line with the second Sustainable Development Goal.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Iqbal Abdullah Rashid, addressed the behavioral, social, and economic dimensions of food waste, analyzing its environmental impact and the role of the family—particularly women—in establishing rational and sustainable consumption patterns.
Through this activity, the association emphasized the importance of moving from theoretical awareness to daily practice by adopting food planning, repurposing surplus food, organizing food donations, and re-evaluating the culture of extravagance, especially during social occasions.
