Planting perennial, desertification-resistant trees was the focus of an environmental workshop during Sustainability Week.

As part of Sustainability Week activities held at the University of Technology from February 4-10, 2026, and in line with Sustainable Development Goals 13 (Climate Action) and 15 (Life on Land), the Green Education and Sustainability Research Association, in partnership with the Training and Laboratories Center, organized an environmental workshop entitled “Planting Perennial and Desertification-Resistant Trees.”

The workshop was presented by Senior Chief Engineer Naeem Barisim Abdul, with the participation of several university staff members and those interested in environmental issues. The workshop focused on the pivotal role of perennial trees in combating desertification and mitigating the effects of climate change, as well as enhancing vegetation cover and improving quality of life.

The workshop addressed the scientific principles for selecting plant species suitable for the local environment, best sustainable agricultural practices, and the practical and technical aspects of planting and tree care to ensure their long-term sustainability and growth. At the conclusion of the workshop, the participants stressed the importance of continuing to organize such scientific and awareness-raising events, given their effective impact on consolidating environmental culture, supporting the university’s orientations towards achieving sustainable development, and enhancing community partnership in protecting natural resources and serving the community.
