The Supreme Council of Iraqi Scientific Societies held its first meeting of 2026 at the headquarters of the Iraqi Engineers Association in Baghdad. The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahd, and attended by the Council’s Vice President, Assistant Professor Dr. Talib Al-Mousawi, along with the heads and members of Iraqi scientific societies from various disciplines.
The meeting was convened in accordance with Article (17/A) of the Scientific Societies Law No. (55) of 1981, as amended, which stipulates that the Council must meet at least three times a year. The purpose of the meeting is to monitor the Council’s work and coordinate the activities of scientific societies in Iraq, thereby enhancing their scientific and intellectual role.
The meeting addressed several topics and decisions related to developing the primary and higher education system in Iraqi universities. It also explored mechanisms for strengthening scientific and intellectual cooperation with Arab and international universities and research institutions, contributing to supporting scientific research and directing it towards addressing priority development issues.
The attendees also discussed the importance of activating the role of scientific societies in supporting the academic environment and enhancing scientific integration among educational and research institutions, thereby contributing to raising the level of education and scientific research in Iraq.
The meeting witnessed the active participation of a number of scientific societies, including the Green Education and Sustainability Research Society, which stressed the importance of employing scientific research in supporting the concepts of sustainability and sustainable development within educational institutions.
