The Green Education and Sustainability Research Association, represented by its president, Professor Dr. Wissam Hamid Alawi, participated in the third meeting of the Supreme Council of Iraqi Scientific Societies for 2025, held on Saturday, December 27, 2025. The meeting was attended by prominent figures from the heads and representatives of Iraqi scientific societies from Baghdad and all governorates.

The Association’s participation reflects its institutional commitment to actively engaging in national scientific forums and strengthening its academic presence within the framework of collaborative scientific work, in line with its mission to support green education, sustainability research, and community service.

The meeting addressed a number of important organizational and scientific issues, contributing to the development of the work of scientific societies and enhancing their institutional role. The deliberations resulted in several decisions, most notably the approval of opening consulting offices for scientific societies, subject to the approval of the Ministry of Planning and in accordance with applicable legal regulations. Additionally, the temporary financial regulations for the Supreme Council of Scientific Societies were approved, ensuring the preservation of the financial rights of the societies and the establishment of a dedicated bank account for the Council.

The Council also approved the awarding of letters of appreciation to associations that consistently attended its meetings. Conversely, it decided to take disciplinary action against associations that failed to attend or pay their annual dues, and to submit their names to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research/Scientific Coordination Department/Scientific Associations Division, in accordance with established procedures.

The meeting also addressed the presentation and discussion of important community studies concerning the phenomena of divorce and suicide in Iraqi society. Letters of appreciation were awarded to the chairpersons and members of the committees that contributed to the preparation of these studies. The Council emphasized the need for two separate scientific studies analyzing the causes and proposing appropriate solutions, reflecting the role of scientific associations in addressing societal issues with a humanitarian dimension.

In the same context, the Council voted to establish the Iraqi Association for Yazidi Research and Studies and approved the holding of scientific conferences organized by associations with similar and related specializations in the medical, engineering, technical, humanities, and scientific fields. The Council also resolved to contact ministries and non-ministerial bodies to nominate their representatives to participate in its work.

It was also decided to prepare regulations and guidelines for classifying Iraqi scientific societies and to issue an approved annual ranking for them. Additionally, a committee of specialists was formed to prepare internal regulations for the Supreme Council of Iraqi Scientific Societies, along with an appendix outlining its vision, mission, and objectives.

During its participation in the meeting, the Green Education and Sustainability Research Association affirmed its support for the Supreme Council of Iraqi Scientific Societies’ directions and its commitment to promoting integrated scientific work, particularly in the areas of sustainable development, environmental education, and the dissemination of scientific and intellectual awareness, thereby contributing to serving Iraqi society and addressing current challenges.

At the conclusion of the meeting, and on the occasion of the Scientific Book and Publications Exhibition, the Iraqi Library and Information Association presented the Shield of Excellence to Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahd, President of the Supreme Council of Scientific Societies, and Assistant Professor Dr. Talib Zaidan Al-Moussawi, Vice President of the Council, in recognition of their efforts in supporting the scientific and institutional progress in Iraq.
